Winners of the 3rd
annual Palestine in Your Eyes announced
Taawon for Youth (WAY) announced the conclusion of its third photography
contest “Palestine in Your Eyes”, under the theme of “Women Empowerment
in Palestine.” The contest was carried out between the 18th of
July and the 13th of August 2016, and was able to motivate
and encourage talented Palestinian youth under the age of 30 to try and capture
the role of women in the Palestinian society.
Photographs showcased the strength of Palestinian women and
their positive and effective role in their society. They were also able to
portray the crucial role Palestinian women play in economic development across
the various sectors that help in the survival, development and sustainability
of Palestine. These women work to improve the quality of life for individuals,
families and communities living under occupation, and aim to build a better
future for their children and their families.
Among the roles highlighted by the photographs are; the hardworking agriculturist,
the blacksmith, the fisherwoman, the
mother, the director, and the artist. The images personify the resilience of women
who are striving to succeed under a compelling political and economic
situation.
The 12 winning photographs
were professionally selected by 7 independent judges from all over
the world. Some of these photographs will be featured in Taawon (Welfare
Association)'s 2017 calendar, in addition to a monetary prize for the top
winners.
WAY also launched a Facebook photography
competition, the “People’s Choice Award” as a
complementary part to the photography contest, giving WAY’s Facebook followers the opportunity
to vote for their favorite picture, which will be featured on the cover page of
Taawon's 2017 calendar, in addition to a monetary
prize.
WAY continuously
seeks to support the talents of Palestinian youth, uniting and motivating them to
actively work under a common Palestinian identity.
